Four-cylinder engine
A four-cylinder engine block of a rectangular shape, scanned with Artec Point. Each cylinder is clearly visible in this 3D model, with every hollow space within the block and all its ribs and fins perfectly defined. This super-realistic digital twin even features all the details of a cylinder head sitting atop the block, with a combustion chamber, valve seats, ports and a water jacket.
Below the cylinders, you can explore a crankshaft supported by bearings, all the connecting rods, and the oil pan, located at the bottom of the engine block. All the mechanical details of the engine are preserved in their original complexity, with every digit of the serial number available for you to meticulously observe.
Artec Point, our first target-based 3D laser scanner, was able to capture every intricate surface, from the smooth cylinder walls made of cast iron to tiny holes and keen edges of all the small gears this engine is packed with.
The workflow started with 10 minutes of preparation before moving into a smooth 30-minute scanning using Artec Point. Its compact form allowed our scanning specialist to obtain data even in tight spaces, while the 120 FPS rate ensured efficient capture of the object. The scanner’s ability to reach inside holes and preserve distinct edges was impressive, resulting in all transitions smooth and free from excessive noise. The 20-minute processing phase delivered a sharp, clean 3D model with an unbeatable level of accuracy.
Go ahead and explore the part in more detail – just zoom in and see everything, from the timing belt to the camshaft components in brilliant 3D. With up to 0.02 mm accuracy offered by Artec Point, this model is another gem for any quality control and reverse engineering workflow.
